chiccachilli convinced me to come along to the Armageddon Expo Australia - essentially what appears to be a mixture of SciFi, Animation, Anime and Pop Culture all in one venue. While the majority of the venue was filled with stands and shops selling all sorts of goods from Manga to set costumes (Anyone have $2250+ on hand) the most interesting part was seeing some of the guests.
In rough order of spotting:
- Alan Tudyk - "Wash" from Firefly. Didn't get to talk to him... just sat in awe. He has neater hair in real life.
- Rino Romano - Batman voice actor (And Tuxedo Mask too I just realised... And Kyle Katarn... And Darth Revan.... D:). Seemed a really frendly bloke who even had the humor to laugh when I told him the only thing I had along with me that would be able to be signed was a Australian Passport Application and Organ Donation Register Form (from my full license forms).
- Richard Horvitz - Invader ZIM, Angry Beavers and Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. He's got a great voice! And laughs/smiles a lot too! :D
- Billy West - Futurama, Ren and Stimpy, etc. - Sounds like a more adult version of Fry. I'm amazed that someone can do so many voices and yet them be so unique. I almost fell over in one of the panels when he did Professor Farnsworth's "Good News everybody!"
Others who I didn't get so close to, but spotted from a distance - Neil Kaplan (Optimus Prime in one of the more recient series of Transformers) and one other guy who did a lot of Russian Voices (He was a voice in S.T.A.L.K.E.R and the new NWN expansion) I think the event could have had a bit more space than it did (We had Wrestling one end, 501st Legion the other all squished into a single block of the Exhibition Centre), but overall not a bad day.
