"Beware The Phantom of the Opera"

Ok, I did say I was going to write something about this in the morning. It's now mid afternoon. Busy morning actually.

Our trip to the show was with Parents, Grandparents and the youngest brother. Younger brother decided that he didn't want to go, which I think is quite a shame with how good the night was. I've been really quite looking forward to this night since I've really wanted to see it again. (This involved subtly and sometimes not so subtly hinting that "Wouln't it be really great to see that again!")

We went out for a lovely dinner at the Sofitel (I don't think I've had anyone call me 'sir' so many times in a row), and then walked down to The Princess Theater for the show. Obviously I was much much smaller last time I saw the show since I was sure the theater was much much bigger than actually was. Nevertheless, it was an absolutely brilliant show. Phantom would have to primarily be classified as a musical, but it combines so many other elements of Opera, Magical Stagecraft and Live action theater that it really is something else. The sets were magnificent, the music is some of Lloyd Webber's very best (there must only be 4 or 5 key motif's that run through the piece yet they comprise a whole spectrum of songs - by the end of the night everyone knows the tunes) and it was terrifically executed.

Ana Marina has a terrific voice and was a great choice for Christine. But the person who really stole the show would be Anthony Warlow. He has the most terrific range and control of his voice - in Australian's eyes I think he is truly the voice of the Phantom. As I think I've said earlier, it was really a fantastic performance and I hope it's not another 10 years before I get to see it again.

Afterwards we went out for coffee and tea whilst we talked and then headed back home as the thunderstorm started coming in from over the west. The morning's been pretty lazy - a late breakfast/morning-tea/lunch sort of thing with Nan and Pa and then sitting in front of the fire.
Despite the fact that exams start tomorrow I don't particularly feel like doing to much last minute cramming - that's what I've been doing all last week.

Highlights of the evening:
  • Being told off for handing a plate to the waiter -  by the waiter (The restaurant was obviously a little too classy for me)
  • The view over the city from the restaurant on 35 floor
  • Seeing Phantom of the Opera goes without saying
  • +1 Phantom of the Opera T-Shirt
  • The guy with an identical shirt to me
  • Watching the thunder and lightning outside

"Perhaps we'll frighten the ghost of so many years ago with a little illumination! Gentlemen!"

Most thoroughly awesome night! The Phantom of the Opera is my favorite musical!
Will elaborate in the morning!

"I am your Angel of Music"

Tomorrow:
Going to see Phantom of the Opera with family.
This has got to be one of my all time favorite Musicals.

I so hope Anthony Warlow will be playing the Phantom this time. (Last time the show toured, back when I was a little tacker, we only saw his understudy)

Poor family is going to have to put up with me humming/singing/playing tunes all day!

Acting up

Last night went out to Stephen's school musical. A bunch of us old 'musical veterans' decided that we'd go and see it together. What can I say - it was great! It's fantastic to see the end result of all that effort. And, wow, so many guys this year - huge improvement from 2 guys-40 girls when I started. Getting closer to 50/50! Not only acting, but vocal and dancing too! :D 'The Boyfriend' had a different style to previous years, but it was still fantastic. (I think that's what makes them so great to see each year.)
Hung around outside the stage door after the show and talked to Vince, Tritz (Still great at catching me and Andy of guard XD) and the other drama department people. Then congratulated everyone! Got more than my fair share of hugs and 'It's Seymour!!!!' Oh how I miss being involved  in stuff like that.
After the show Lauren, Maddie, Rebecca, Lauren 2 not Steph ^^;, Andi and I headed over to the Pancake Parlour for supper. Hot chocolates, pancakes and a lot of fun all round. Lucky it was close to midnight - we were making quite a bit of noise! Haha!
Didn't stay round for too much longer though, as Andy was totally exhausted at that point and almost fell asleep on the 5 minute drive home. (In the fog - it's been really foggy for the last two days actually~)

Tonight heading out to Leah from Uni's 20th Birthday. 20! Wow, end of teens! That's kinda getting scary! (I've only got about two and a half months of teenishness left myself.)
Got a bit of a drive though, they're in the inner northern suburbs, so about and hour's drive or so. Might pack a pillow, driving home really late isn't exactly all that fun.

Quote for the day:
Solve lora infernis! [Unleash Hell!]
Et future te ipsum! [And have a nice day!]

So, buddie, beware!

I don't know what it is about live performances, but somehow they're always infinitely better than a recording. I think it must be that by simply being there, you're part of show and I think that's what makes it all the many more times better. Kudos to the cast and crew of "Anything Goes". It was a hell of a night. ^^

Without me realising it, over the past 3 years at this house, I've horded an unthinkable amount of paper, notes, sketches and bits and bobs. I've spent a good two weekends sorting. I've filled 4 huge bags full of paper. And yet still, there seams to be more! And what's worse is most of it is totally useless handouts, worksheets and notes from high school! Yet in the debris I've managed to find a few interesting things such as most of my art sketches (Somehow I've done way more than I thought possible), a set of rather important insurance and banking paperwork that really should never be lost, a long lost CD and one or two of my favourite books! (I didn't know I had Animalia in here!)

Searching for bits and pieces for a pirate themed 21st ~ saw a few things at Spotlight that could be very "useful". I think I'll also need one of those ridiculously large feathers too!

Still haven't send in my Manifest booking form.... Gawd that's bad! Only got until the 19th August! Must somehow get Andy along for both days too.

And you’ve got to love family! Now, apparently Kristy and I are now getting married! XD Crazy people!
